Little Nightmares is easily one of the creepiest, most frustrating yet addictive puzzle games that is currently offered to players. The game pits players against deformed and deranged adults who have arterial and awful motives for the children within the game. It’s both uncomfortable to look at and yet oddly charming. The puzzle mechanics are engaging and difficult, making the game overall challenging, horrific, and fun. It’s no wonder why players continue to return to the horror game time and time again.
Little Nightmares centers on two small child protagonists, the Runaway Kid and Six. These children find themselves deep in the depths of the Maw, where horribly deformed adults are trying to catch the children for nefarious purposes. Players will run into some of the most horrific versions of people imaginable. The game does a fantastic job using body horror to illustrate how unsettling and horrible this place really is. Help the children escape before they become mincemeat.
Little Nightmares newest DLC, The Hideaway, gives players a further expansion of the already great, yet terrifying, game. In this DLC, players once again return to the character, the Runaway Kid. How the Runaway Kid managed to find themself in a horrific place is not clear, but escape is absolutely necessary.
The Hideaway consists of dungeons and cellars, and it’s a place where the Nomes take refuge. The Nomes support the operation of the furnace that is responsible for the movement of the Maw, the name of the giant, metal monster of an ocean liner that the player is trapped on. In this part of the game, the Nomes are essential in helping the player escape from the Maw. This can be evident in the “The Ashes of the Maw” secret trophy that players can unlock with the DLC, The Hideaway.
However, receiving the “The Ashes of the Maw” trophy can be difficult. Finding the wooden Nome and getting him safely to the furnace can prove to be a tricky task. Instead of floundering and getting increasingly frustrated, follow this simple guide to receive the trophy and get closer to the Platinum achievement. So get the Runaway Kid’s hugging arms ready, this is about to be a bumpy ride!
The Ashes of the Maw Achievement in Little Nightmares
The “Ashes of the Maw” trophy is not impossible to unlock, but it certainly isn’t easy. In order to start, players need to find the Wooden Nome. This Nome won’t be encountered until players reach the janitor’s workshop. The Nome can be seen sitting on top of the janitor’s desk beside the saw table. Wait for the janitor to walk away before climbing up the desk to grab the Nome.
Once the Nome is in the Runaway Kid’s possession, carry the Nome through the room on the left. Moving that direction will also help players avoid the janitor that never seems to get far enough away. Players will have to move quickly in order to not be seen or heard by the janitor. Place the Nome near the wheel crank in the center of the left room. This frees up the Runaway Kid’s hands to flip the lever at the back of the room.
Climb the desk that is against the back wall and push the switch. The switch can be tough to see, but it’s against the back right corner, to the left of what looks like a fuse box. Flipping this switch will power up the workbench in the janitor’s workshop. On the bench and to the right is a hole in the wall which will lead players back to the workshop. Hop on through and land on the paper stack right below.
Players will find themselves back in the janitor’s workshop. While the janitor is in the other room, run to the saw and press the button to start it up. The noise will cause the janitor to go back into the workshop, giving space for the player to make a daring escape.
Head back into the room to the left of the janitor’s workshop. The room is now empty and players will be able to turn the crank that is next to the box of doll parts. Turning the wheel crank will open the cellar doors to the left. Grab the Nome (which is hopefully still by the crank that was just turned) and throw it into the cellar. Then jump through the doors.
The Runaway Kid will land into a room with a minecart track. Continue to move through The Hideaway DLC as normal, carrying the Nome the entire time. Once players have proceeded through the area and have pushed the minecart through the wall at the end, players will find a trap door with a handful of Nomes standing on it. Place the wooden Nome on the trap door and exit through the narrow opening on the right. This will take players back to the furnace room. Climb down the latter and enter the room on the left.
Once in the room, players will see a latter with a lever hanging from the ceiling. Climb the ladder and jump to pull the lever. This will cause the three regular Nomes and the wooden one to fall through the hatch directly above. Pick up the wooden Nome and take it to the furnace. The furnace can be found in the main room on the right. It also helps that more Nomes show up and are throwing coal into the furnace as well. Toss that wooden Nome into the furnace, and the Ashes of the Maw trophy should automatically unlock.
One thing worth noting is that some players had issues receiving this trophy. If, for some reason, the achievement does not occur after throwing the wooden Nome into the furnace, simply close the game and quit out. Don’t go find a new checkpoint, just close and re-launch the game. Once back on the home screen, select continue. This should take players back to the furnace with the wooden Nome sitting nearby. Simply throw the Nome into the furnace again, and hopefully, the trophy will pop up.
Gather all the Nomes and get out of there! And be ready for Little Nightmares 2, where more night terrors are sure to catch players!
