A new cosmetic mod for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt transforms Geralt of Rivia’s usual face and body into that of Henry Cavill. Cavill is set to portray Geralt in the upcoming Netflix show, which is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series of the same name rather than the video game franchise. Although an official release date is yet to be announced for the series, the first trailer that debuted at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con gave fans an exciting first-look at Cavill’s Geralt in action.
The Witcher 3 has been fertile ground for hundreds upon hundreds of mods ever since the game was first released over four years ago. Considering it’s one of the best games of 2015 (and ultimately one of the most acclaimed games of all time), it has built up a huge and incredibly dedicated modding community over time. The community has been responsible for countless fixes, tweaks, and additional content that has significantly extended the life of what is already a massive game. Even nowadays, mods are being released for The Witcher 3 all the time - including plenty of cosmetic ones that allow players to change a character into someone else entirely.
The latest example comes from a user called Adnan on Nexus Mods, who has concocted a new cosmetic mod that turns Geralt of Rivia into Henry Cavill’s version of the character. The mod applies Cavill’s fully-animated likeness to Geralt’s face and adds a new body texture to be more reminiscent of the actor. It also includes the alternative witcher medallion worn by Cavill in the early promo material for the Netflix adaptation. Check it out below:
It’s easy to see that there is an impressive level of detail that has gone into creating this cosmetic mod. It works in tandem with the unique hair physics of The Witcher 3, so Cavill’s hair and beard will grow naturally over in-game time and can be cut or styled depending on their length. As the player consumes witcher potions in the game and raises their toxicity level, Cavill’s face will also reflect the intoxicated appearance that he bears in the early footage of the Netflix show.
As cool as this mod is, there doesn’t seem to be a ton of mods for The Witcher 3 that are based on the Netflix adaptation, or at least what’s been seen of it so far. This may be because of the general apprehension surrounding the show from many diehard Witcher fans, or it could simply be because the show doesn’t come out until later in 2019 when it will gain more visibility and popularity. Regardless, this mod will allow players to see and do things as Henry Cavill’s Geralt that may or may not happen in the show. Those things could be hilarious or… something else, depending on how big of a Henry Cavill fan you are.
