Three more original members of the Lizzie McGuire cast are returning for the reboot on Disney+. In 2001, fans were introduced to Lizzie McGuire and her family as she tried to navigate her life through middle school. The show aired two seasons on Disney Channel from 2001 to 2004, ending with Lizzie on her middle school trip to Italy before heading off to high school. Fans never got the opportunity to see where things left off for Lizzie as she entered her teenage years and went to college. But soon, viewers will have a reunion with her.
During this year’s D23 Expo, it was announced there’d be a new Lizzie McGuire series coming to Disney’s streaming service. It will focus on Lizzie in her adult years as she turns 30, and the life she built in New York City. Hilary Duff described Lizzie as much wiser than when she was a 13-year old. And fortunately, Duff will not be the only original star coming back for the revival.
In a press release, Disney announced Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine, and Jake Thomas have signed on to reprise their roles of Jo, Sam, and Matt McGuire, Lizzie’s parents and annoying little brother. Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide, had this to say in a statement:
The question now is will Lizzie’s besties Miranda (LaLaine), and Gordo (Adam Lamberg) will be back for the reboot. The last time viewers saw Miranda was at their middle school graduation and she went to Mexico with her family instead of attending the school trip. If she does comes back, audiences would love to see what she did with life, and if she and Lizzie are still close. Fans were hyped when Lizzie and Gordo finally kissed during The Lizzie McGuire Movie. Even though Lizzie has her dream guy, it would be a fun twist to see if her childhood crush react.
“Just like there is no Lizzie McGuire without Hilary Duff, there is no McGuire family without Hallie, Robert, and Jake. The original series holds a special place in the hearts of so many, and we can’t wait to introduce fans, both old and new, to an older, wiser, yet still perfectly imperfect Lizzie.”
As fans continue to speculate about what the future has in store, they’ll be able to refresh themselves by watching the original series and movie. All 65 Lizzie McGuire episodes will be available to stream on Disney+ when it launches in the U.S. on November 12. It is unknown when the reboot will debut on the platform, but if the cast is coming together now, one would imagine production is going to commence in the very near future.
