Character descriptions for Loki may tease the roles for the time cop agents of the Time Variance Authority. Despite Loki’s demise at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel Studios found another way to bring the god of mischief back in future stories. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe show for Disney+ will follow the 2012 version of Loki, from a different timeline, who escaped using the Tesseract during the time travel missions in Avengers: Endgame.
Up until recently, Marvel Studios kept confirmed details about the series to a minimum. It was repeatedly described as a time travel series that would take place at different moments in human history. This led many to wonder if the Tesseract was being changed again, but the few seconds of footage Marvel has released for Loki indicate otherwise. Tom Hiddleston was shown wearing a prison-like jumpsuit that had a TVA (short for Time Variance Authority) logo on it, which indicated that he was captured by the organization that patrols time travel and the multiverse.
Thanks to a new report from The Illuminerdi, various character descriptions for Loki have been revealed. With several cast members announced already, some of these roles may already be filled. Marvel was searching for a big name with a sense of humor to play the “Male Lead,” who is needed for 5 or 6 episodes and has options in the contract for a movie appearance. There is also an open call for a female between 30 and late 50s for all six episodes as “Female 2.” The role of “Casey” is open to any ethnicity or gender and described as a likable and funny intern who has spent their career indoors and always follows the rules. Lastly, there is a need for a 27 to 36-year-old male to play a contentious and combative soldier named “John.”
The details that these descriptions hold vary from part to part, but it is likely that some - if not all - will be linked to the TVA. The group doesn’t have a huge comic history or library of characters to pull from, so there’s no telling how accurately Marvel will adapt them for the MCU. That said, their more prominent figures like Justice Peace or Justice Love could fit the descriptions for Male Lead and Female 2, while “John” also sounds similar to Justice Peace in the comics.
Based on who Marvel has already cast in Loki, these descriptions do match up quite well with a few of them. Owen Wilson fits the bill of a big name star with a sense of humor and is likely playing the Male Lead role, whether that is as Justice Peace or possibly even Kang the Conquerer. The latter has an association with the TVA in the comics given his time travel practices, but Kang is also one of Marvel’s biggest villains the MCU hasn’t used, which could explain the option in the contract for a film appearance.
Additionally, Gugu Mbatha-Raw could easily be Female 2 or Casey, but her recognizability makes her a more natural fit as a lead than supporting character. It could then be possible that Sophia Di Martino is Casey or someone not listed in these descriptions. Whether our speculation is correct or not, these character breakdowns indicate that there are still some roles Marvel needs to cast for Loki. Since production has only been underway for a few weeks, fans should expect to see more cast members join the series in the near future.
