Netflix has kept fans of Lost in Space in suspense, waiting to find out when the second season would be returning to send the Robinson family into a new adventure. But now that the first trailer has arrived, it’s clear fans have no idea what to expect from this series next.
Today at New York Comic Con, the cast of Lost in Space was on hand to announced the adventure series will return for its second season on December 24th 2019. Along with an official release date just in time for the holidays, comes the first teaser trailer showing the new locations, new wildlife, new threats, and yes, even the new Lost in Space cast member. Once again delivering 10 hour-long episodes, it seems that Lost in Space’s cliffhanger ending is going to seem like a small risk, compared to the water-covered planet they’ll be heading to next.
The trailer offers only a glimpse of actor JJ Feild (TURN), but Netflix has confirmed he will be playing the recurring guest role of Ben Adler, chief of advanced systems and artificial intelligence. There are obvious questions about how Adler’s path has crossed that of the Robinsons, but now that Maureen has an academic equal, one would hope the family’s chances of making their way back onto their intended path would increase as a result. Of course, that too is undercut by the small tease that after everything Adler has experienced, he “bears more in common with her son, Will Robinson.” Fans can watch the first trailer for themselves below, along with the first official plot synopsis for Lost in Space season 2.
It looks like the showrunners have ratcheted up the memorable landscapes, visual effects, and alien environments for the Robinsons to encounter, but once again the bond between Will and his Robot will be the driving force. The mystery of the Robot’s morality and people was one of the most lingering questions after the first season, so here’s hoping Will tracks down his friend sooner rather than later.
There’s more danger — and adventure — ahead for the Robinson family! With the Jupiter 2 stranded on a mysterious ocean planet without their beloved Robot, the Robinsons must work together, alongside the mischievous and manipulative Dr. Smith and the always charming Don West, to make it back to the Resolute and reunite with the other colonists. But they quickly find all is not as it seems. A series of incredible new threats and unexpected discoveries emerge as they look for the key to finding Robot and safe passage to Alpha Centauri. They will stop at nothing to keep their family safe… survival is a Robinson specialty after all.
Lost in Space season 2 will be coming exclusively to Netflix on December 24th, 2019. The series stars Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, Maxwell Jenkins, Mina Sundwall, Taylor Russell, Ignacio Serricchio and Parker Posey. Zack Estrin (showrunner), Kevin Burns, Jon Jashni, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless serve as executive producers.
