Love Is Blind is likely your latest guilty pleasure, a reality TV series from Netflix with a bizarre premise that you just can’t turn away from. The idea is that groups of strangers gather in a secure area, the men in one place and the women in another. Then, they “meet” one-on-one in pods, except there’s a solid wall between them so they can only hear one another. They strike up conversations and see if anything clicks. If two people form a deep emotional bond, there is the possibility of a proposal (yes, for marriage) after which, and only after which, the couples get to meet in person. They then aim to see if love is blind or not and if their physical bond can match their emotional ones.

It’s beautifully weird, potentially even repulsive. Yet like a train wreck, you can’t turn away. And while there’s a lot about this show that makes no sense, here are 10 things in particular that have us scratching our heads.

The Weird Drinkware

These people are 20- and 30-something singles, not royalty. So what’s with the gold goblets they’re always seen drinking from? Sure, some of them seem to be pretty well off, with job titles like executive, scientist, and business owner (pretty vague!) But why are they drinking out of drinkware that suggests they’re either billionaires or right out of Game of Thrones?

Given that the series often shows people intoxicated and speaking crassly, they’d fit right in with The Hound.

They Have Never Previously Met

We know once they all go back “home” that everyone resides in Atlanta. It makes sense because it would be far too much to ask people to consider marrying someone they just met and having to decide who would move clear across the country if they lived in different states.

With that said, how is it that none of them have ever met one another before, or have mutual acquaintances? Sure, Atlanta’s population is about half a million, and many of the cast members are originally from somewhere else, so it’s definitely plausible. But it would be interesting to find out that some of them have crossed paths before and didn’t realize it (or reveal it).

They Propose After a Week!

The very premise of the show makes no sense: we get the experiment to determine if love really is blind, but why do the couples have to decide to get married in order to see one another and begin dating? Why can’t they just pick someone to date?

The whole concept of marriage can still be discussed. And maybe the end game of the show can be marriage for anyone who wants to go through with it. By why force marriage from the get-go?

They Are Planning a Maybe Wedding

When someone plans their wedding, it’s supposed to be a day to remember for the rest of their lives. The day they join with someone else to pledge their forever love and decision to start to build a life together.

On this show, most of the couples are planning a “maybe” wedding that will certainly happen but might end with one or the other person deciding not to go through with it. Still, they plan, invite the family, pick the dress and tuxedo, have a bachelor/bachelorette party, all to potentially not go through with it? Sure.

They Have To Get Married

Why does marriage have to be the end goal? If they want to do the whole proposal thing, like The Bachelor, that’s fine. But why not let them then continue on with their relationship, go on vacation, move in together as they do on the show, but not have to end in marriage.

Instead, they could simply meet together one last time in the end and decide if they then want to continue dating or start planning a wedding or cancel the proposal. Of course, the show wouldn’t be as dramatic and nail-biting this way, so we get it.

They Get Dolled Up In the Pods

To their credit, these people know they are being filmed for a TV show, so even if the person of the opposite gender with whom they’re speaking can’t see them, they know that potentially millions of viewers can. So we get why they get dressed to the nines when they go into the pods for their blind dates.

But really, if you know you’re going to chat with someone who can’t see you, why not just go in there with your pajamas or track pants, hair frazzled, make-up not done? Perhaps it also has something to do with the whole “look good, feel good” thing.

Everyone Is Conventionally Attractive

The series is supposed to test if love is actually blind and falling for someone based on an emotional connection is enough. However, every person on the show is conventionally attractive. So yes, while the person someone chooses might not look like the type of person they usually date, it’s not like they will want to go running for the hills when they see them.

If the show really wanted to test the theory, they should have had some people who didn’t fit the conventional mold of being attractive in the mix.

Why On Earth Mark is Still With Jessica

Oh, Jessica. She fell hard for the fitness trainer Mark but began to strike up a bond with Barnett. In the end, she decided that she had a deeper connection with Barnett and was convinced he was going to propose to her. She disclosed this to Mark, effectively breaking up with him.

She then went crawling back after Barnett told her he had a deeper connection with someone else, and Mark stuck around and proposed! Meanwhile, even after she continues to toy with his emotions in person, he is adamant that he loves her. Clearly, love is blind!

Some Fights Seem Staged

Some of the fights between the couples seem really staged, such as one between Giannina and Damian. The two started out hot and heavy but their differences quickly became apparent and they began to fight like cats and dogs (and proceed to make up just as intensely).

But sometimes their fights didn’t seem authentic at all, like when Giannina called Damian out for having an awkward conversation at Barnett’s birthday party. These people aren’t actors, but we can’t tell if the fights are real or totally put on by producers to add drama.

No One Has Revealed Their Relationship Status Yet

Can you believe that this series was actually filmed way back in 2018? How on earth is it possible that the truth about who is still together and who isn’t hasn’t been revealed yet, in over a year?

The families and friends who attended the maybe-weddings have had to remain tight-lipped and the stars aren’t able to post any revealing details on social media. But if couples live together, hang out together (or don’t), co-workers, acquaintances, and others surely known by now which way things went. That’s a long time to keep a husband or single status secret! That said, you can go down the rabbit hole of the Internet to find tons of headlines outlining who’s still together and who isn’t, or wait for the finale if you want to be surprised.
