Tackling the variety of environments and enemy ghosts in Luigi’s Mansion 3 can be a lot to manage for a beginner to the Luigi’s Mansion franchise. The newest title in the franchise pits Luigi against a new cast of ghosts, challenges and bosses and will utilize every ability learned throughout the game. Although the game may begin as a light-hearted adventure game, as players progress upwards through the mansion the difficulty will follow the trajectory of the elevator.
As players trek through the haunted floors of the mansion, there will be a wide variety of enemies and environments that will challenge the skill and whit of its players. This guide will provide a general demonstration of the mechanics of Luigi’s Poltergeist 3000 alongside providing a general overview of the enemies and treasures that players will encounter during the course of their journey.
Using the Poltergeist 3000 in Luigi’s Mansion 3
The titular gadget of the Luigi’s Mansion franchise, the poltergeist 3000 is part-vacuum, part-grappling hook, part-black light, and all useful. The tool comes with 4 main functions. A machine that can stun and suck up enemy ghosts, a tool which can flash enemies and turn on electronics, a powerful grappling hook, and a supernatural cataclysmic light which forces possessed items to relinquish their spectral parasites. The poltergeist is the perfect gadget for ghost-filled hijinks found throughout Luigi’s Mansion 3.
The primary function of the poltergeist 3000 is the powerful vacuum function it has. A reliable method to access money and other items capable of being sucked up, it has a wide variety of uses throughout the game. One being, it is your line of defense against the ghost enemies found in the game. It both sucks up the spectral foes and can even be used to slam enemies against the floor weakening them further. It can be used to rip down curtains and sheets or to pull chain levers which can open new paths for Luigi. It also possesses a blowing function which has some niche uses throughout the title.
The second function of the poltergeist 3000 is the blinding flashlight it possesses. This light can blind enemies, allowing them to be vulnerable to the vacuum function of the gadget. The flashlight and the vacuum are like peanut butter and jelly in terms of their synergy, one can not thrive without the other. Besides combat, the ability lets Luigi activate certain mechanical items found in the mansion. These items will be labeled with a bright green light above them.
The third function is the plunger grappling hook. This allows Luigi to shoot a sticky plunger onto items and yank them down. This is useful for breaking boxes that provide useful consumables and also to steal pesky items from enemy ghosts. Although not as vital as the other abilities, using this plunger will open up many avenues on your haunted adventure.
The fourth and final ability in the arsenal of the poltergeist 3000 is the “black light” function. This allows Luigi to make invisible objects visible, possessed items free from their possession, or obtain items held back by haunted paintings. It will take players some time to get used to this ability, as its practicality is less apparent. However, it may prove to be the most important ability in Luigi’s possession as it allows for major story progression among other important uses.
Dealing with the Enemy Ghosts in Luigi’s Mansion 3
The variety of ghosts that Luigi encounters during the adventure through the haunted mansion can prove to be overwhelming at times. The 7 different enemies that Luigi does battle all have a variety of different abilities and it is crucial to understand their capabilities and weaknesses. The 7 ghosts are Goob, Hammer, Oozer, Slinker, Trapper, Mini Goob, and Mini Hammer.
The first of the 7 ghosts are the Goob types. These are the standard ghost enemies boasting 100 health, they are relatively easy to deal with. However, the Goob enemy has the ability to pick up items, wear helmets or any other pesky trick they can manage to avoid being flashed. They may be the simplest ghost to understand but they have plenty of tricks up their sleeves.
The second ghost is the Hammer type. Boasting a whopping 200 health, these are the most durable ghosts players will encounter that are not boss ghosts. Their large stature may seem intimidating but they can be dealt with easily. Avoid their powerful punching attacks and ground pound moves, and there won’t be much to worry about with these enemies. However, keep in mind after flashing a Hammer, Luigi has to run behind his large boxy frame in order to suck up the enemy.
The third type is the Oozer ghost. Having only 100 health Oozer’s hide in various locations and only appear to throw different items at Luigi. These ghosts can be difficult to capture and require a big of trickery to defeat.
The fourth ghost is the Slinker ghost. A 120 health enemy, the Slinker will turn invisible during combat and attempt to grab Luigi from behind. Make use of mirrors to find Slinker’s location, once flashed he will struggle a bit more when attempting to vacuum but can quickly be defeated.
The fifth ghost, the Trapper, is an enemy which requires both Luigi and Gooigi to defeat. It will grab Luigi and deal around 5 damage consistently, to defeat the Trapper Gooigi must flash the enemy and both Luigi and Gooigi have to vacuum the enemy together. A relatively easy ghost to defeat once a player knows its trick.
The sixth and seventh ghosts are mini versions of Goob and Hammer and prove to be another easy enemy to overcome. Their vast numbers may seem overwhelming but they have no health and can be vacuumed quickly. However, do not let them surround Luigi as they can overwhelm a seasoned veteran if allowed to. Try and keep them in large groups in order to vacuum them all up in one go.
Learning and memorizing the abilities of the Poltergeist and the abilities of the enemy ghost will turn even a beginner into a master in Luigi’s Mansion 3.
