Luigi’s Mansion 3 continues the series tradition of featuring numerous collectibles hidden throughout the world and the Boos from the Super Mario Bros. series can also be found hiding in every corner. Luckily, Luigi has been given new ghost-hunting tools that will help him track down the Boos and capture them.
There are several collectibles that players can track down in Luigi’s Mansion 3, but the Boo hunt is the one that is the most fun, as the player needs to search through the floors in order to find their prey. The Boos can be tricky foes, which is why we have created a guide to help the wannabe Mushroom Kingdom ghostbusters catch all the ghosts in the Last Resort Hotel. Luigi’s Mansion 3 is one of the biggest Nintendo Switch games of 2019 and there is always fun to be had in plundering the hotel.
How Do You Find Boos in Luigi’s Mansion 3?
The Boos are hidden within containers on their designated floor in the Last Resort Hotel. If the player opens the wrong container, then the Boo will appear and summon a group of bats that will attack Luigi. In order to find the correct container, the player needs to pay attention to the HD Rumble in their controller, as it will shake harder the closer Luigi gets to the Boo’s position.
One issue that players might run into is with the controllers that lack HD Rumble. We tested Luigi’s Mansion 3 with an officially licensed wired Nintendo Switch controller that lacks HD Rumble and there didn’t seem to be any substitute mechanic for players without access to Joy-Cons or Pro Controllers. This will pose a problem for people playing on a Nintendo Switch Lite, as this lacks any HD Rumble functionality.
Once Luigi has found the correct container, the Boo will emerge and a battle will begin. All of the Boo battles are identical and follow the same pattern. Luigi or Gooigi need to use their Dark-Light Device and spin around, which will reveal the Boo’s position. The players will need to focus the Dark-Light Device on the Boo, which will cause it to take on a physical form. The Boo will be stunned and its tongue will flop out of its body. The player can then grab the tongue with the Poltergust and repeatedly slam it into the ground. The player will need to repeat this process one more time and the Boo will be captured.
Where Are The Boos in Luigi’s Mansion 3?
The sixteen Boos are tied to different floors. Their exact location is randomized each time, so they could be in any room on the floor. The player just needs to be aware of the HD Rumble on their controller.

What Do You Get For Finding The Boos?
Finding and capturing all sixteen of the Boos will allow Luigi & Gooigi to equip the Flashlight type-B, which projects an image of a Boo whenever the player uses their torch. The effect appears to be purely aesthetic and doesn’t seem to grant any benefits in combat. The reward might not be as cool as the one for collecting every Power Moon in Super Mario Odyssey, but the goal of capturing the Boos is a lot easier to accomplish.
