In more recent revisions of macOS, Apple has swapped the old Save As functionality for Duplicate. So, instead of allowing you to re-name and re-locate your very important Pages document, it instead creates the same version with ‘copy’ tacked on to the end, in the same exact location as the original one.
While this won’t matter to many people, it’s still worth mentioning for the small group of people who’d like to change the default behavior.
Mac: How to restore ‘Save As…’ functionality
Before we get started, if you’d like to temporarily get this functionality back but prefer the default Duplicate option, simply click on the File menu while holding the Option key down.
- Fire up System Preferences > Keyboard.
- Tap on Shortcuts, and then App Shortcuts.
- Tap the + button to add a new shortcut.
- Type in Save As… in the Menu Title field.
- In the Keyboard Shortcut box, type in the desired keyboard shortcut you’d like to use.
- Tap the Add button when done.
Now, Save As will be the default shortcut versus Duplicate.
