Apple has officially released macOS 10.12.1 for all macOS Sierra users. The Mac software update is available through the Mac App Store after previously only being available in beta to developers and public beta testers.
The first update to macOS Sierra pre-dates Apple’s upcoming ‘hello again’ event on Thursday which will likely include new MacBook Pro hardware and features unique to the new models. For now, macOS 10.12.1 improves security and reliability for all users.
The release notes (below) also specifically mention improved compatibility with Microsoft Office documents, Mail, Universal Clipboard, Auto Unlock with Apple Watch, and Safari. iPhone 7 Plus users will also enjoy a new Depth Effect smart album in Photos when using iOS 10.1 and macOS 10.12.1.
Apple has also released several other software updates today:
- Apple releases watchOS 3.1 to the public with bug fixes, update through iPhone Watch app
- tvOS 10.0.1 software update for Apple TV is now available for everyone
- Apple releases iOS 10.1 with Portrait Mode for iPhone 7 Plus, fixes and improvements for all other devices
